About

Hello, and thanks for visiting. My name is Mike Sweeney and my photographic specialty is photojournalistic wedding reportage and location portraiture. I really enjoy what I do and I work very hard at it—I hope it shows through my images. I’ve been photographing weddings for over a decade and you can see recent work samples by clicking on the menu options above, or some of the links listed below.

Work and Style

A lot of photographers will say they can take photojournalistic-style pictures at your wedding, but they have no real expertise in this area. “Wedding photojournalism” is not just a buzz word or specific marketing approach for me. I was formally trained in photojournalism—my Bachelor of Arts degree is in this exact field. It was my photographic “upbringing” so to speak, and I have an intimate understanding of this demanding discipline. I’ve also worked as a professional photojournalist on several continents, photographing in diverse countries such as Mexico, Jordan, Bolivia, Thailand, and Senegal. Because of this I am able to capture images that are vibrant and full of life, yet always doing it with sensitivity and respect.

Unobtrusive is the best word I can use to summarize my approach to photographing a wedding. Yet as a journalist my goal is also to tell your unique story simply, naturally and true to life. It is really a huge privilege to be involved in your wedding. Toward that end, I have chosen not to place any time limit on your coverage. I also only schedule one wedding on a given day because you deserve my full attention. Further, you won’t have your day disrupted by having to pose for a lot of stiff photographs—you’ll barely know I’m there! But afterwards you’ll see some of the best moments of the day captured without having made a huge production of it.

Many thanks for your interest in my work.
